The Funds of the Order
As we approach the season of Lent, sacrifice to honor the suffering and death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ becomes a focus. It is very appropriate to hold the ingathering for the Self-denial Fund, one of the four funds to which Daughters contribute every year, around the time of Lent. The Feast of the Presentation in the Temple - February 2 is the actual date. The fund originally called for a week of self-denial with the funds accumulated being donated to the Self-Denial Fund which provided money for missionaries. Today the money goes to support many missionaries throughout the world. In what significant way can you deny yourself and provide a donation? Perhaps one cup of Starbucks during the week, giving up a pack of cigarettes or vaping, skipping a special food treat, or setting aside your phone or ipad and setting a monetary value upon that time, would represent self-denial for you. Remember that you can make an individual donation or make a chapter-wide plan and pool the money to make a group donation. It would be a good idea to spend some time in prayer for foreign missions during the time gained by forgoing some of the above-suggested ideas for self-denial.
We are so very blessed.
Remember those who live austere lives in order to spread the message of the Light of the World in dark and depressed places.
God bless you all and have a blessed month and season of Lent.
